Review: Groundwork Coffee (Venice)

This brand of coffee has been here since 1990. It is a small-batch roaster that focuses on organic coffee, impacting communities both locally and at origin.

It was this mission that caught my eye. I just celebrate brands that believe in fair trade practices and also participates in community events.

And I am not really a coffee drinker but this coffee, I like. Strongly recommend.

PS: I don't mind their teas either. Probably best as afternoon tea, as it is has a super light profile.

Green Sea Shells is a travel & wellness magazine that explores luxury stays, spas, rituals, and global destination guides — but also the small, everyday moments that cost nothing and still bring clarity and joy.

I look at the experiences, big and small, that shape how we live, rest, and feel.

Gen Z apparently has a phrase for this: “satisfying to watch.”

At a gathering recently, someone hired a dosa chef with a simple skillet setup. Before long a small crowd formed around him. His hand moved in steady circles, spreading fermented rice-and-lentil batter into a thin round, letting it crisp, adding the filling, folding it over, and sliding it onto a plate before starting again.

Dosa comes from South India, and the batter—made from fermented rice and lentils—is light and naturally high in plant protein. But what stood out that evening wasn’t just the food. It was how everyone ended up standing around the skillet, watching the rhythm of the process while talking about life.

No one was stuck cooking in the kitchen. The cooking itself became the gathering.

We talk a lot about wellness in terms of workouts, supplements, and routines. Yet a big part of feeling well is simply spending time together, sharing food, and letting a small moment—like watching someone make dosa—slow everyone down for a while. #dosa #socialwellness #indianfood

After today’s 75-minute run, my muscles are tight and sore, so I’m using a massage gun as part of recovery. Percussive therapy increases blood flow to the areas that worked the hardest, which can help reduce stiffness and support faster recovery. The repeated pulses stimulate circulation, improve range of motion, and may decrease delayed onset muscle soreness after longer endurance sessions. It also helps the nervous system transition from high effort back to a more relaxed state, which matters just as much as the workout itself. I’ve been told not to just run all the time, so today was swim day, and I’m realizing that at this stage of life it’s less about how fast I can go and more about how long I can stay steady, control my breath, and keep moving even when I feel tired. I swam 30 laps at 25 yards each, which may not sound like much to some people, but for me — at 47 and not someone who grew up thinking of herself as athletic — it feels significant.

My late 40s have become about doing it all while I still can, building endurance in both my body and my mind, mixing things up so I stay strong in different ways, and showing up even on the days it would be easier to skip.

If you’ve ever thought you’re not athletic enough, not fit enough, or that it’s somehow too late, I just want to say that pushing yourself doesn’t have to look impressive to anyone else to matter.

It just has to be honest.

Try something new, mix it up, stay with it long enough to see what happens, and let yourself get stronger physically and mentally at the same time — not to be a superstar, but to be someone who endures.

Day 3 of a stubborn cough has meant no school for AK and a doctor visit, but alongside the prescribed medication I’ve been doing something my mom always did for us growing up — garam sek, a simple Indian home practice where you gently heat a cloth over the gas flame and place it on the chest repeatedly to provide steady dry warmth that helps ease that tight, uncomfortable feeling that comes with persistent coughing.

It’s not a replacement for medical care, just a small, practical layer of comfort that has carried across generations.
