Ashwagandha for a Healthy Stress Response

We call this the Indian Ginseng. No matter what brand you choose, let's talk about why this is a good botanical product and why you should consider adding it to your life.

Ashwagandha is ancient medicine, native to India as well as North Africa and the Middle East.

Scientific name: Withania Somnifera

It helps with anxiety reduction as well as with symptoms of depression. Many call this botanical an 'adaptogen' because it helps with stress management and enhances brain function and lowers blood sugar level.

Ashwagandha is an important herb in the practice of Ayurveda. For at least 3000 years, this herb has been used to boost the immune system, calm nervousness and to combat insomnia - often Ayurvedic practitioners combine it with other herbs for better effect.

This root of this herb are most often made into powder and consumed, but the fruit is sometimes used as well.

This brand (youtheory) uses root extracts to capture the phytonutrients that occur naturally in Ashwagandha. I personally prefer it also because the tablets are vegetarian. The herb definitely has a pungent smell but this brand makes it easier via capsules so it won't matter.

I do not like to overdo dietary supplements, so I would have this once 7-10 days, in the morning with breakfast. Do not have if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, take sedatives or deal with hyperthyroidism.
