Things to do in Manhattan Beach

Updated: Jan 19, 2023

Staying in Manhattan Beach (Los Angeles, CA) for a few days?

I know you would like to go to the beach, of course! Walk on the beach, bike on the beach (rent at Hermosa Cyclery), play on the beach, build sand castles, stroll on the pier, take photos and watch sunsets. The water is too cold to enjoy unless you have a wet suit and plan to surf.

But food matters too. Here is a quick scoop on what and where to eat.

Food

Several great restaurants here, slightly pricey (it's that kind of town, unfortunately) so check the menus and prices before making your reservations. Also, reservations are recommended, so plan in advance.

By the beach:

MB Post, Love and Salt, Esperanza (ooh drinks!), Strand House (views!) and Fishing with Dynamite. Petros for Greek, Uncle Bills for pancakes. India's Tandoor on Sepulveda

By the Village Mall / El Segundo shopping:

True Foods, Tocaya, Litte Sister, Mercado, Dan's Modern Chinese and Mercado

Wine & Beer

Barsha (cute wine bar, also has a Tunisian restaurant at one of their locations), Culture for beer

Ice cream:

MB Creamery (by the beach) and Handel's and Van Leeuwen by the mall

Coffee:

Two Guns and Philz

Grocery:

Whole Foods, Ralphs, and Trader Joe's. Gelson's is lovely, slightly more expensive.

Places around near Manhattan Beach?

Tons. Manhattan Beach is part of an area that the LA locals call 'South Bay'. Explore other towns in South Bay, especially the ones on the beach: Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach. They have their own piers, lively downtowns and lovely food scene. Park at one of the pier parking lots and just walk around to get a feel of the place.

If you like shopping, there is a wonderful mall called Del Amo in Torrance. Hawthorne has family-friendly breweries such as LA Ale Works and the famous SpaceX shuttle!
